Tahoe Paradise to host Longest Day of Golf June 18

Tribune staff report

MEYERS — A local tradition that tests golfers’ endurance while raising money for the community will tee off for the 10th time later this month. South Lake Tahoe Moose Lodge No. 1632 along with Sierra-at-Tahoe Resort, Harrah’s and Harvey’s are sponsoring the 10th-annual Longest Day of Golf on Thursday, June 18 at Tahoe Paradise Golf Course.

Tahoe Paradise has committed in assisting this community fundraiser by donating its course for the entire day. Golfers will start at sunup and play as many holes as they can before sundown — last year, golfers played up to 130 holes each and raised more than $12,000 for South Lake Tahoe Cancer League.

Participating golfers will take pledges on a per-hole basis or a flat dollar donation amount. This year’s goals are to play 130-plus holes and raise more than $12,000.

Everything for the Longest Day of Golf is donated and the manpower is volunteered. Lira’s Supermarket, Blue Dog Gourmet Pizza and McDonalds will donate food and beverages for the event.

Money pledged and collected from the event goes toward providing financial assistance grants to cancer patients in South Lake Tahoe and free transportation to cancer therapy centers in Truckee, Reno, Carson Valley, UC Davis, Sacramento and SLT. Those that wish to make a donation via credit or debit card can call SLT Cancer League at (530) 573-1703.

This event offers a great opportunity for the community and local Moose Lodge to give a helping hand and show that we care. Those that would like to make a pledge can stop by Moose Lodge Monday through Friday from 2 to 8 p.m., Saturday and Sunday from noon to 6 p.m. — or can call the lodge at (530) 573-1703.
