Tahoe player selected for Nevada ODP girls’ team

Bree Norton, 13, from South Lake Tahoe, will likely see her competitive soccer game go from the regional level to statewide.

Bree was one of four Northern Nevada soccer players to earn a place on the U-89 Nevada Olympic Development soccer team.

Norton traveled to Las Vegas Dec. 6-8 to try out for the team along with several other girls from the region. She was the only U-89 player from the Tahoe Basin to make the cut, said Debbie Norton, Bree’s mother. The remaining 20 players are from the Southern Region.

Elizabeth Walker, Alexis Fallow and April Castellanos were also selected from the North to play for the highly competitive soccer team.

Bree said Carol Gatien helped her with her game and enabled her to make the team. Gatien coaches Bree on the Tahoe Turbulence girls’ U-14 club team.

This is Bree’s first run with the ODP, but she plans to continue playing soccer in South Lake Tahoe.

The ODP team will travel to Idaho next August to learn from college coaches.
