Tiny Mites looking for a few good kids

Staff Reports

South Tahoe Pop Warner and Cheer Association is actively seeking participants for its newly formed Tiny Mite division, which includes football players 5-7 years old and weighing between 35-70 pounds. It also is seeking similarly aged children for its cheer squads.

Until the school year starts, the typical practice schedule for all football teams is Monday to Friday, 5-7:30 p.m. at South Tahoe’s Field of Dreams. The Tiny Mites will practice three days per week and under two hours per night.

After the first week of conditioning, the Tiny Mites will be provided the same equipment as the older teams, including pads and helmets. The first practice is on Aug 8.

Any child between 5-15 years old is encouraged to come out and play football or cheer. No tryouts are necessary and scholarships are available.

For more information, call Lisa Slater at 530-544-6736 or Christey Weinmesiter at 530-544-1567. You can also register online at http://www.southtahoepopwarner.com.

Tahoe soccer camps slated

There are four age groups for both boys and girls (4-5, 6-7, 8-9 and 10-12). The 10-12 year-old age group will participate in a full-day camp from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The younger age groups will have half-day camps from 9 a.m.-noon.

All players must bring shin guards, sweatshirt, sunscreen, two water bottles and a snack. Advance registration is required and can be completed by calling Johnson at 530-544-7579 or 530-318-5452.

Silver Sox holding tryouts

The 18-under Silver Sox Babe Ruth baseball travel team is holding tryouts July 26-28 from 6-8 p.m. at Sparks High School for its fall team. All players should bring baseball attire, a glove and a bat.

The Silver Sox will use wood bats throughout the fall season. Opponents will include teams from Northern Nevada as well as Northern California. It will also work in conjunction with a major league scouting bureau through its RBI program.

The Silver Sox will schedule more than 40 games from Aug. 1 through the middle of November. Both home and road games will usually be played on the weekends.
