Tough BMX action continues in Week two of summer season

Tribune staff report

Eighty-one riders turned out to compete in the second race of the season at South Lake Tahoe BMX on Saturday. The race was sponsored by Tahoe Sports LTD and included riders as young as four-years-old to age 48.

Riders were grouped according to their age and ability level and raced in three qualifying motos and a main event.

The eight-year-old novice class was clearly the toughest class of the day with a total of seven riders battling for the trophy. Brett Leonard from Stockton, Calif. came out on top, followed by Dillon McKeen of Sout Lake Tahoe. Blake Shamas, also of South Lake Tahoe, finished third in what was his very first BMX race ever.

Racing action continues Saturday and new riders are welcome. Race registration is open from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. with racing following immidiately after. The entry fee is $10 for racers and spectators are free. For more information, call the BMX track hotline at 542-9337. The track is located at 1100 Lyons Avenue at Al Tahoe Elementary School. This week’s racing action is sponsored by The Rock Water Tavern.
