Tough shooting night for Vikes

Staff report

A difficult shooting quarter doomed the South Tahoe High girls’ basketball team in its Winter Classic opener on Thursday in Sparks.

The Vikings struggled to make two of 17 field goal attempts during the second quarter of a 50-22 defeat to host Spanish Springs.

“And they were good shots,” said STHS assistant coach Andy Braun.

Alexis Nunes-Fenley led the Vikings with nine points, while Tess Braun tossed in four.

Jessie Hallard recorded two blocks for the Vikings.

“Our man to man defense is coming along. They are starting to get the switches and deny help-side man to the basket,” Braun said.

Next up for the Vikings is today’s 4:30 p.m matchup against Spring Creek at Spanish Springs.
