A six-run third inning carried the South Tahoe Little Leaguers to a 13-3 victory over Spark American in a 9-10 all-star tournament winners’ bracket game Monday night at Shadow Mountain Complex in Sparks.

South Tahoe stands at 2-0 going into Thursday’s 5:30 p.m. matchup with Carson American.

Six South Tahoe players had at least two hits, including Joel Morris, who had a triple among his three knocks. Jake Leonard, Derek Holmgren, Kyle Dupree, Daniel Vallejo and James Denny each delivered two hits for the winners.

Sam Pierini’s one-out infield single ignited the big third inning. Sparks overthrew first on the play, sending Pierini to third. Afterward, South Tahoe scored six runs.

“That’s when the kids started rolling,” said South Tahoe manager Mike Dupree.

Kyle Dupree picked up the win, working four innings. Denny closed out the final three outs in the fifth to bring the 10-run rule into play.
