Truckee dominates first Nordic race

Truckee High School opened the Nordic ski season with a resounding win, sweeping both the boys and girls varsity podium with one exception on behalf of a North Tahoe skier taking runner up for the boys.

South Tahoe boys varsity entered three skiers. Tyler Reiger, one of two returning juniors, led his team with a 12th-place finish with a final time in the 6-kilometer race of 25 minutes, 59.8 seconds.

Andrew Van Blarigan (20:24.4, Truckee) finished first at Mammoth Mountain’s cross country course by nearly 1 minute. Dominic Henriques (21:15.7, North Tahoe) finished runner-up and Joaquin Goodpaster (21:28.7) finished third.

On the girls side, Kara LaPoint (23:46.4) took first, followed by teammates Maisha Goodpaster (24:48.8) and Lindsay Collin (25:52.9).

Other noteworthy results for South Tahoe were Brian Kurek (16th, 26:47.2) and Alex Sharp (19th, 28:45.5).

Freshman skier Greg Koeck placed fifth in the junior varsity race at 26:10.6.
