Uibel, Holmes in contention at zone

Nicole Uibel shot a team-best 89 and Alexis Holmes carded a 95 to lead the South Tahoe High girls’ golf team in the opening round of the Northern 4A regional tournament on Tuesday at Red Hawk G.C. in Sparks.

Bernie Schneeberg shot a 100, Delanie Sabac a 102 and Tasia Hancock at 107 for the Vikings, who are in fifth place in the team standings with a 493.

Douglas is the first-round leader with a 422 and is followed by Spanish Springs (459), Galena (468) and Carson (471). Douglas’ Bethany Wurster is the individual leader going into today’s final round after carding a 74 on Tuesday.

Uibel sits in 10th place overall and Holmes is in 19th. The top two teams and the top five individuals from non-qualifying teams advance to next week’s 4A state tournament.

Galena, Reno net titles

The Reno boys’ tennis team won the Northern 4A regional tournament team title after its 10-8 victory over Galena on Tuesday in Reno. The Galena girls won the regional title with a 12-6 win over Reno.

The Northern 4A regional individual tournament begins on Thursday in Carson City.
