Unique chance to race with dog Sunday at Spooner

Tribune staff report

Looking to have a dog-gone good time this weekend? Then bring your dog and participate in the annual Tahoe Trails and Tails sponsored by Nutra Pet Food on Sunday at Spooner Lake State Park.

Runners and dogs have two options — a 2-mile run/walk or a 10K — for a $35 fee. For a family of four, the price is $100. The entry fee includes a cache of goodies, including a postrace barbecue put on by Cozy Kitchen, a steak from Overland Meats and entry into a bountiful raffle.

Some of the raffle prizes are being provided by Heavenly Ski Resort, Diamond Peak and Edgewood Tahoe Golf Course.

“It’s a great time and it’s going to benefit the animals,” said local veterinarian Staci Baker, who started the event in 1995.

Proceeds from this year’s event will be donated to the Yerington Animal Protection Society.

Runners without dogs are welcome to compete. The 10K race will take competitors toward Marlette Lake and back.

For more information, phone Baker at (775) 588-3828 or visit the race Website at http://www.tahoetrailsandtails.com
