Viking lift-a-thon tonight

Tribune staff report

Tonight is an opportunity to check out the progress of the South Tahoe High football team in the weight room.

The Vikings will hold a lift-a-thon, starting at 6:30 p.m. in the school’s gold gym.

“We’re trying to get folks out to see what the kids have been doing,” said STHS football coach Eric Beavers.

Winners and runners-ups in seven weight classes for ninth- and 10th-graders and 11th- and 12th-graders will advance to the Northern Nevada 4A League competition May 25 at Hug High in Reno.

The competition is open to the public. A drawing for raffle prizes, silent auction and T-shirt sale are also part of the evening’s activities.

Carbo-loading will also be possible through a spaghetti dinner. The cost for adults is $5, children $3 and families of four $10.

Proceeds will help the Vikings attend summer football camps and add conditioning equipment and weights to their new weight room.
