Viking trainer OK after collapsing

Michael Traum

It was a scary moment with a happy ending.

South Tahoe High trainer Lisa Jaureguito collapsed on the sideline just prior to the completion of the school’s varsity football game on Saturday. After being treated on the field for more than 10 minutes, Jaureguito, the wife of Tahoe head coach Tim, was taken by ambulance to Barton Memorial Hospital. She was treated for severe heat exhaustion and later released.

“I hadn’t been feeling well since the morning and the heat was really bothering me. I was trying to cool off at halftime and was putting ice packs and cold towels on my head and neck during the second half,” said Jaureguito from her home on Sunday. “The last thing I remember was the safety. The next thing I knew I was at the hospital. After I had realized what had happened, the first thing I asked was did we win.

“All the tests came back normal. I was lucky (emergency personnel) were at the field. It was more serious than overheating. It was severe heat exhaustion.”

Jaureguito said she had ingested plenty of fluids during the day and that it was not diagnosed as food poisoning. Temperatures were estimated to be in the high 80s.

Tahoe won the game, 40-36.
