Viking volleyers win epic 5-set thriller vs. rival Truckee

The South Tahoe Vikings volleyball team won a five-set thriller Monday, Oct. 30, over rival Truckee to end the regular season and stop the Wolverines from winning the 3A Northern League outright.

The Vikings rallied from behind to beat Truckee 25-21, 22-25, 22-25, 25-9, and 15-13.

McKenna Brewer had 17 kills and sophomore Jerra McLaughlin helped lead the Vikings’ attack. Novel Moses had seven kills and Sofia Hedqvist added four. South Tahoe made just 16 hitting errors in 154 attempts.

The Vikings served for 14 aces with Hailey Naccarato recording four and Brewer and Kaitlyn Racca adding three each.

The Vikings were dominant at the net with Brewer making 15 blocks, 13 of which were solo. McLaughlin added nine blocks, five of which were solo. The Vikings made 23 blocks on the night.

Naccarato made 34 digs and handled 33 serves with just two errors and Moses added 21 digs and received 20 serves. Tyler Pevenage had 35 assists.

The Northern League finished with three teams tied for first and three tied for fourth.

The Vikings (10-6 Northern League) finished as the fifth seed for playoffs that begin at 3 p.m. Friday against Elko (10-6) in Fallon, Nevada.

South Tahoe forced Truckee (12-4) to share the league title with Lowry (12-4) and Fernley (12-4).
