Viking wrestlers defeat Hug

South Tahoe defeated Hug 54-25 Wednesday in a wrestling rematch at Hug.

The Hawks only had six wrestlers, but what they had was quality. Despite forfeiting matches until the 152-pound weight class, the Hawks out-wrestled a young Viking team in 5 of 6 matches.

Kyle Krouse (152) lost to his Hug foe by decision, 17-6. Josh Martin pinned Nick Mercado (160) after 3:35. Oscar Moreno (171) was pinned at 1:07 in the first round, and in the 189s, Nathan Sweeney was pinned at 1:01 in the first.

In the 215s, Jerry Foster wrestled his Hug opponent to a 6-6 draw before losing 8-6 in overtime.

South Tahoe heavyweight David Vasquez pinned his Hug foe in less than a minute.

“They have quality kids,” STHS coach Jack Lopez said. “But I have some quality kids that didn’t get to wrestle.”

South Tahoe’s record improved to 1-1 and 2-1 overall. Hug dropped to 0-4.
