Viking wrestlers, Warrior boys’ basketball face tough battles

South Tahoe’s wrestling team faced a high level of competition at the non-league Ponderosa Duals, going 0-4 over the weekend.

The Vikings lost to Ponderosa by a landslide 70-14, and subsequently lost to Granite Bay High, Paso Robles High, which is near San Luis Obispo, and Vallejo High, from the Bay Area.

David Vasquez, a senior heavyweight in the 275-pound weight class, went 3-1 over the Dec. 13 match.

Ryan Davis, a senior 161 and the only returning Viking wrestler to have wrestled at state in 2001, left the area for personal reasons and isn’t expected back this year.

The Viking’s match against Hug Dec. 18 will be rescheduled. A date has yet to be announced. The Vikings did not attend the Lassen Duals Dec. 20-21 due to the weather and transportation difficulties.
