Vikings continue to do swimmingly

South Tahoe is swimming super in the Sierra League.

The Vikings kept their undefeated streak alive, as both the boys and girls team downed Sparks on Friday in Incline Village. The girls won, 130-48, and the boys triumphed, 94-52. The Vikings have not lost a small-school league meet in at least two years.

“The swimmers scored points individually but what really won the meet was the team relays,” said Tahoe coach Dale Bogard. “(We) depend on returning swimmers to place but at this meet many first-year swimmers placed.”

Six Tahoe relay teams swam first-place performances. The highlight came in the boys 200 free. Erick Luerken swam first, followed by JoJo Miller, who stayed even with his Sparks opponent. Justin Murray also stayed tied before Russell Grant anchored going away.

Other relay outings included: 200 medley – girls A, Sarah Ross, Denise Bogard, Kristi Collins, and Jessica Tinlin, first place; girls B, Shaina Willen, Andria Allen, Nicole Murray, and Faye Clapp, third place; boys A, Tom Luerken, Russell Grant, Justin Murray, and Erick Luerken, first place; and boys B, David Quandt, Forrest Armstrong, JoJo Miller, and Matt Williams, third place. 200 free relay – girls A, Kim Hunt, Nicole Murray, Faye Clapp, and Nicole Fruitman, first place; and boys A, Erick Luerken, JoJo Miller, Justin Murray, and Russell Grant, first. 400 relay – girls A, Kristi Collins, Jessica Tinlin, Denise Bogard, and Sarah Ross, first; boys A, Tom Luerken, Shane Anderson, Matt Williams, and Forrest Armstrong, first; and girls B, Kim Hunt, Megan Hicks, Shaina Willen, and Nicole Fruitman, second.

On the boys individual result side: Russell Grant, first, 200 free and 500 free; Tom Luerken, first 100 back and fourth 200 free; Justin Murray, first 200 IM and 100 fly; Erick Luerken, second 50 free and 100 free; JoJo Miller, third 50 free and fourth 100 free; David Quandt, third 100 back and fifth 50 free; Shane Anderson, third 100 breast and sixth 50 free; Matt Williams, second 100 breast and fifth 100 free; and Forrest Armstrong, second 500 free and 100 breast.

On the girls side: Nicole Fruitman, first 200 free and 500 free; Denise Bogard, first 200 IM and 100 breast; Sarah Ross, first 100 free and 100 back; Kristi Collins, first 50 free and 100 fly; Jessica Tinlin, second 200 IM and 100 fly; Shaina Willen, second 100 back and third 500 free; Kim Hunt, second 200 free and third 100 free; Lisa Borges, third 100 back and fourth 200 free; Jan Goethals, fifth 500 free and 200 free; Nicole Murray, third 100 fly and fourth 200 IM; Faye Clapp, third 50 free and 100 breast; Megan Hicks, fourth 50 free; Andria Allen, fourth 100 breast and fifth 50 free; Amy Cecil, seventh 50 free; and Kristin Griffith, seventh 10 breast.

The Vikings will host Truckee and Hug on Friday at the South Tahoe Recreation Center.
