Vikings drop to fifth in golf standings

South Tahoe High’s golf team dropped to fifth place in the Sierra Division standings despite lowering their scores on Monday.

All five of the Vikings’ who figured in the team’s total score broke 90 at Wolf Run Golf Club in Reno, but STHS finished fifth behind Douglas, Carson, Reno and Damonte Ranch.

“Everybody played better today. Some other schools had larger improvement than we did,” said STHS coach Mike Patterson.

Team scores were Douglas 406, Carson 408, Reno 414, Damonte Ranch 424, STHS 432, Wooster 470, North Valleys 521 and Hug 593.

Damonte Ranch’s C.J. Gibson fired the low score with a 76. Vikings’ scores were Kyle Mazzoni 82, Eric Cianci 86, Chad Cooney 87, Trevor Borek 88, Kyle Garrett 89 and Kaz Kosciolek 97.

The Vikings are one point behind fourth-place Damonte and three behind third-place Reno. The top four teams advance to the regional tournament.

The next division tournament is Monday at Sierra Sage in Stead.
