Dan D’Angelo and Sean Fannan each fired 79 to lead South Tahoe High to a ninth-place finish out of 22 teams in the Carson Golf Tournament on Thursday in Carson City.

In a steady rain at Eagle Valley West Course, the Vikings kept their games intact, shooting 416 collectively to improve upon their 12th-place standing after Wednesday’s first round.

“We were four strokes higher today on a much tougher course,” said STHS coach Mike Patterson. “It’s a real target golf course, and three of our kids did a real good job with that.”

Fannan, who opened with a 2-over-par 74, finished in the top 10 individually. STHS’s Kenny Craig carded an 80 and Hunter Harris, Ryan Kraw and John Wallace shot 89s.

Galena’s Bryson Young shot his second straight 72 to take low medalist. First-round leader Dustin Hall scored eight shots higher Thursday with his 77.

Carson led all teams with a 791 total, and was followed by Castro Valley with 794 and Ukiah with 795. STHS’s ninth-place total was 828.

South Tahoe hopes to clinch a zone tournament berth when Northern Nevada 4A League play resumes Monday in Elko.
