Vikings lose twice to reigning champs Reno

After a respectable 12-3 loss to the Reno Huskies on Thursday, the South Tahoe High baseball team wasn’t as fortunate in a doubleheader against the defending state champions over the weekend.

Reno beat the Vikings 16-0 in the first game of the doubleheader, then posted a 21-3 victory in the second game on Saturday at Zunini Field in Reno. The wins improved the Huskies’ Sierra Division record to 3-0, while South Tahoe dropped to 0-3. Carson and Wooster also won all three of their division games last week, North Valleys and Hug lost all three, and Douglas was idle.

Against Reno, the Vikings’ lone highlight came in the second game, when Daniel Tinlin belted a two-run double in the fifth inning that scored South Tahoe’s final two runs.

The Vikings play North Tahoe on Tuesday at 3:30 p.m. The game is tentatively scheduled for Governors Field in Carson City, weather permitting. The team is also hosting a wine-tasting event on Thursday evening from 6 to 9 at Fresh Ketch. Tickets are $20 with all proceeds going toward the South Tahoe baseball team. South Tahoe travels to Reno on Friday for a game against Wooster, then hosts a doubleheader against the Colts on Saturday starting at 10 a.m. at Lampe Park in Gardnerville.
