Vikings make second trip to zone

The South Tahoe golf team has clinched a zone berth as a team for the second time in two years.

With their sixth place finish in Elko Tuesday afternoon, the Vikings will be making their second trip ever to the zone match.

“There’s no way the eighth of ninth team can catch us now,” Viking coach Mike Patterson said. “We sit fifth overall right now, and we’ll finish fifth, sixth or seventh.”

Led by Ryan Craw’s 78, STHS finished in the middle of the pack with a team score of 419.

McQueen finished first with a team score of 387, just ahead of Galena (391) and Reed (391).

Sean Fannan was the second lowest scorer for the Vikings at 81, followed by Kenny Craig (85), Hunter Harris (87), Dan D’Angelo (88) and John Wallace (90).

Again it was Bryson Young of Galena who took the individual title with a score of 68, followed by a trio of golfers who posted 75s.

Dustin Hall of Reed, John Marry of Douglas and Seth Cotter all tied for third place.

The Vikings have one more conference match next week when they travel to Northgate on Monday.
