The South Tahoe High softball team came within inches of racking up its first Sierra Division victory on Thursday, losing 6-5 to Carson High.

South Tahoe pitcher Missy Lucero held the Senators to five runs through six innings and she and her teammates put together five runs of their own in the fifth inning. Lucero, Molly Novasel, Kylie Novasel and Erin Jamison strung together four straight hits in the inning.

Lucero reached base in the top of the seventh and had a chance to score but was thrown out at the plate. In the bottom of the inning Carson loaded the bases on a single and two walks before a Lucero wild pitch allowed the winning run to score.

South Tahoe (2-11 overall, 0-8 Sierra) will play at the Reed Tournament starting on Friday, with at least four games on the weekend.
