Vikings second at division swimming trials

Both South Tahoe swimming teams had encouraging performances at the Zephyr League Championships on Saturday at Northwest Pool in Reno.

Led by Tim Powers and Dan Rabbetts, the boys’ team finished second with 367 points, but Fallon won the six-team meet with 374 points.

Powers won both the 50 freestyle and 100 fly races, while Rabbetts took first in the 100 freestyle. Both swimmers also helped lead the Vikings to a first-place finish in the 200 medley relay.

The girls’ team placed third out of six teams with 278 points. Reed won the meet with 402 points and was followed by second-place Fallon (334).

Natalie Turner won the 200 freestyle and placed second in the 500 freestyle, while Lacey Payne placed third in both the 200 individual medley and 100 fly.

Next up for the South Tahoe swimmers is the Northern 4A regional trials on Friday in Carson City, followed by the regional finals on Saturday in Carson City.
