Vikings shut out Panthers
Nina Thompson had two goals and an assist, while Karli Vath added two goals of her own as the South Tahoe High girls’ soccer team hammered North Valleys 8-0 in a Sierra League match on Saturday in Reno.
Tess Braun had a goal and two assists and goalkeepers Candace Prescott and Alexis Nunes-Fenley combined to post South Tahoe’s seventh league shutout in the past eight games.
Cassidy Berg, Sara Burrell and Gina Locicero had the other three goals for the Vikings (16-2 overall, 10-0 league), who play at Reno on Tuesday.
STHS boys down Panthers
Omar Navarro, Bryan “Chino” Garcia and Omar Reyes all scored first-half goals in the South Tahoe boys’ soccer team’s 3-1 Sierra League win over North Valleys on Saturday in Reno.
The Panthers scored their only goal in the 70th minute.
“We’ve had trouble against the weaker teams like this … we tend to play down to their level,” said STHS coach Chris DeLeon. “We weren’t motivated at all.”
South Tahoe (13-3-2 overall, 6-2-2 league) hosts Damonte today at 3:30 p.m. at the Community Youth Sports Complex, then travels to play Reno on Wednesday.
Viking JVs top No. Valleys
Cassandra Diaz had two goals and Becky Bruce added two assists for the South Tahoe JV girls’ soccer team in its 3-0 win over North Valleys on Saturday in Reno.
Shelbi Spicer started the scoring in the first half for the Vikings, whose defense posted another league shutout.
South Tahoe’s next game is on Tuesday at Reno.
