Vikings split in Sparks

It all came down to one run Saturday as South Tahoe split its league doubleheader in on the road.

The Vikings lost the first game 2-1 before redeeming themselves with an afternoon 12-11 win over Sparks.

Sparks made the most of its two hits in Game 1, but two hits were all South Tahoe starting pitcher Jordan Mann gave up as he continues to pitch lights out for the Vikings. The sophomore struck out eight and walked one in six-plus innings of work.

South Tahoe took an early 1-0 lead in the first inning and held the edge through the top of the fourth. Spark got one on the board in the bottom to knot the score, and added the go-ahead run in the seventh.

South Tahoe’s Sergio Burgueno and Taylor Weik both raked triples in Game 1. Tyler Sharp added an RBI single and Kolby Eymann contributed a hit.

Both teams got some batting practice in Game 2.

South Tahoe took a one-run lead in the first and stretched it to 5-1 in the second. The Vikings added another 3 runs in the fourth and 4 in the fifth to build a comfortable 12-4 lead. Sparks surged back in the seventh with a 7-run inning, but South Tahoe held onto a one-run lead.

Eymann and Sharp went 2-for-4, with Sharp knocking in three RBIs. Dominic Diana and Cody Higgins each added two RBIs. Diana, Weik and RJ Rivera all added hits for the Vikings.

UP NEXT: The Vikings will host Truckee on Saturday at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. The boys will play at South Tahoe Middle School, and the girls at South Tahoe High School.
