Vikings tennis teams roll

Both South Tahoe tennis teams head into showdowns with Reno next week with wins under their belts as both squads downed Sparks on Thursday.

The South Tahoe girls team got its first win with a 13-9 decision over Sparks. The match came down to the final doubles match. The South Tahoe duo of Kristin Kirkland and Saleene Hancock triumphed to preserve the win.

“They won all three double matches,” head coach Debbie Matthews said. “It was really exciting to see them win.”

Another player who performed well was Larissa LaRue, who won two of three matches in decisive fashion, 6-1, 6-2.

“It was really good singles win for her,” Matthews said. “She’s coming together nicely as a player.”

The Viking boys now have two wins on the young season as they pummeled the Railroaders, 18 – 4.

All of the first-string players recorded 6-0 set wins in the rout.
