A lineup reconfiguration paid big dividends for South Tahoe High tennis coach Sabrina Zalles and her Vikings on Thursday afternoon.

Led by three victories from new doubles team Larissa Larue and Kelly Haslam, the Vikings edged Bishop Manogue 12-10.5 in the Northern Nevada League match in South Lake Tahoe.

Larue, a former singles player, and doubles regular Haslam paired up to win their matches 6-4, 6-3, 6-2. Also providing crucial doubles points were Chelsea Grabhan and Saleen Hancock, who won 6-4 and 6-4.

In singles play, No. 1-seeded Samantha Crosson won 6-1 and 6-3, and No. 3-seeded Lauren Shue showed grit by rallying from 0-3 before falling 5-7.

“I knew they could do it,” Zalles said. “It was just a matter if they were playing to the best of their abilities. They were all playing good tennis.

“The girls’ spirits are very high and they have a strong camaraderie within the entire team.”

STHS (4-2) will play host to league powerhouse Reno on Tuesday.

The undefeated South Tahoe High boys tennis team traveled to Reno Thursday and gave it everything it had. Unfortunately, a half of a point separated a win from a loss as the Manogue Miners came away with a 11.5-11 victory in Northern Nevada tennis.

“I am very proud of the way the boys played today,” Viking coach Pat Fagen said. “All season we’ve been asking them to play up to their ability and today they did.”

Parker Alexander and Garrett Moulton won all three of their matches to go 13-0 on the season and the singles play of Corrie Lindsey and Chris Fillipko shined in defeat. Lindsey won all three of his matches, while Fillipko took two out of three.

The Vikings will get back to work next Tuesday in another road match at Reno High.
