Vikings two-for-three in Rotary Invitational

If you had to pick a place for the South Tahoe High School’s boys’ basketball team, you could put them at runner-up.

They lost only one game out of three in the Viking Rotary Classic last weekend. And the team that beat the Vikings — Soquel — went undefeated.

The Vikings were well on their way to beating Soquel for most of the game Friday, said junior forward Dan Tilles. The Vikings led or were tied most of the game. But Soquel came back just when the Vikings let down to win 54-42.

“At the end we just kind of lost it, and it happend in the matter of a minute,” Tilles said. “They turned it around and got some layups and ended up winning.”

“That was kind of the sad part …,” he added. “It was definitely a game that we should have won, that we could have won.”

The Vikings took the lesson to the next game on Saturday, where they battled the Atwater Falcons.

“We knew we had to come back and rebound from Soquel. We knew losing was not an option. We couldn’t lose two games in a row like that,” Tilles said.

Dan Tobin led the Vikings to victory with a game-high 20 points.

While the final score wasn’t available Sunday, the Vikings allegedly won by a large margin.
