Warrior girls go 0-3 in Manogue Tournament

The Warrior girl’s basketball team went 0-3 at the Manogue Tournament over the weekend, but sent three players to the all tournament team.

Sophomores Katie Green, Whitney Gielow and Ariana Rodriguez made the tournament team. Seniors Ashley Wines, Marie Peterson and sophomore Anna Kingman had other arrangement and missed the tournament, except Wines, who made the last game.

The Warriors lost their first game Dec. 26 36-16 against Manogue’s junior varsity.



The Miners pressed and the Warriors struggled moving the ball, making 21 turnovers.

Green and Gielow both had 6 points each.




Freshman Luaunay Brinkley led with seven steels.

Brinkley again led in steals with five against Coleville as the Warriors lost 41-26.

Despite Green’s 10 defensive rebounds, the Warriors struggled on boards, taking 39 shots and recovering only two offensive rebounds.

Green led with 10 points followed by Hayes’ six.

The Warriors led Carson’s JV 21-16 at the half in their last game Sunday, but lost the intensity to lose 48-36.

Wines led with 15 points. Green followed through with 8 and Hayes had 6.

Rodriguez led with 12 rebounds.

“In the last game, Ariana played as well as I’ve ever seen her play,” said head coach Lindsay Wines, who added that Gielow also had strong defensive play throughout.

The Warriors next game is their league opener at Incline Jan. 7 at 6 p.m.
