The Whittell High baseball team is starting to pick up steam.

Facing league rival Incline on Tuesday, the Warriors remained undefeated in league by handing the Highlanders a 11-1 loss via the 10-run rule at Lampe Park.

Senior hurler Brandon “The General” Lee threw a complete game, fanning eight, while only allowing one walk.

“He was in command but didn’t have his best stuff,” Warrior manager Don Amaral said.

The Warriors broke open a 2-1 game in the bottom of the fourth inning when Whittell unleashed nine consecutive hits to score eight runs and push the lead to 10-1. Whittell then finished off the game with a run-scoring by Chris Hannum.

In the fourth, Lee’s lone free pass led to the only score for the Highlanders. After issung the walk, a fastball from the senior right-hander found its way to the backstop after blasting through the webbing of Brett Schussel’s mitt for a passed ball.

The next Highlander batter squeaked a base hit down the first-base line on a check swing to drive in the only run.

The Warriors jumped on Incline in the bottom of the first when Hannum led off with a single and scored on a Lee double.

Lee was driven in by fellow senior Matt Oslen, who singled.

The Warriors have a junior varsity game today at Virginia City before hosting Lovelock for a twinbill on Saturday at noon.
