Warriors think of O’Brien while blanking Yerington

The team exacted a little revenge for Heather O’Brien, the Whittell High Warrior soccer star who tore her anterior cruciate ligament against Yerington last month.

The Warriors won 4-0 with Jackie Laurian’s three goals and one assist in the Nevada 3A girls soccer match Wednesday in Zephyr Cove.

Laurian scored in the 31st minute of the first half on an assist from freshman Holly O’Brien.

“We came out slow in the first half but responded well in the second half,” said girls’ coach Mike Leeper.

Laurian’s second goal was unassisted in the 42nd minute.

Her third was a header in the 64th minute on a cross from Katlin Green.

“It was picture-perfect goal,” Leeper said.

Jenna Hayes scored the Warriors’ final goal in the 88th minute on an assist by Laurian.

“Overall, we played well with a little more combination plays,” Leeper said.

The victory put the team’s record at 4-1-0 overall and 2-1-0 in the 3A Lake Division.

It was the team’s second Lake Division shutout. Junior Elise Thomas played keeper.
