Warriors wallop Wolves

For a quarter, the Whittell High Warriors did all coach Nathan Tolbert told them to do. But the Warriors were lethargic the rest of the way in a 48-30 nonleague girls’ basketball win over Coleville on Tuesday in Zephyr Cove.

Whittell jumped out to a 16-4 lead after eight minutes, but only scored four points in the second quarter as the Wolves crept to within 20-12. It took a 19-point fourth quarter for the Warriors to finally put away the Wolves.

“We dominated the whole game, but I’m still looking for more,” Tolbert said. “Everyone was in agreement after the game that we can play better than we did.

“We lulled ourselves to sleep in the middle of the game.”

Katrina Kacirek led Whittell with 19 points. Jessica Woods added eight, Tara Scaduto six and Megan Esquivel five. Esquivel was promoted from the junior varsity before the game.

Whittell (8-1) will welcome Northern 4A League member Hug on Thursday night in Zephyr Cove. Game time is 6:30 p.m.
