Warriors wrap up fifth straight Northern 2A volleyball title
They’ve accomplished something that Whittell High’s four state volleyball champions did – win a Northern 2A League title.
The Warriors swept Lovelock 25-13, 25-16, 25-20 to give the school its fifth straight league title Thursday in Zephyr Cove.
On Senior Night, Whittell seniors Jordan Reeder, Kendra Koskin and Brittney Makara played like so many seniors before them.
“They wanted to make point: they are part of their tradition and that they are gonna prove that they are another one of the great teams,” said Whittell coach Dan McLaughlin.
Reeder delivered an all-around performance with eight kills, five blocks, five digs and 12 assists; Koskin had seven kills, two aces and seven digs and Brittney Makara contributed five kills and five digs.
Whittell’s underclassmen didn’t do too bad either. Lauren Andrew collected five kills, two digs and a block; Isabel Concha-Foley had two kills and two blocks; Jacquelyn Baines came through with 3 kills, a dig and two bocks; and Brett Harrington proved to be key with seven digs and 12 perfect serve receive passes out of 15 attempts.
“We’ve played a tough schedule and now that we’re back to playing teams of our size, it shows the level of play and how good they really are,” McLaughlin said.
Whittell (13-5 overall, 9-0 league) can complete its fifth straight unbeaten league season on Tuesday at North Tahoe.
Lovelock won the JV match 25-19, 25-19.
