Weekend for Hot Dogs at Heavenly and Alpine

Tribune Staff Report

Remember the time you saw Wayne Wong and his buddies skiing your run, but you were too timid to ask if you could join them.

Well, it’s not too late. Starting Friday at Heavenly Ski Resort and continuing Saturday and Sunday at Alpine Meadows, the Wayne Wong World Hot Dog Skiing Championships gives your the opportunity to join them on the slopes.

From 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday, Wong and freestyle skiing legends like Scott Brooksbank, John Clendenin and Bob Salerno will be performing their old tricks.

Even if you can’t meet them on the slopes, you can join the freestyle skiing’s old guard at Caesars Tahoe during the Flashback Film Festival, wine tasting party, auction and concert.

Registration for the sixth annual classic runs from 8-10 a.m. Friday at Heavenly base lodge. After skiing with the legends from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., the schedule includes a 3-4 p.m. apres ski party at Heavenly’s California Bar and a 6-8 p.m. reunion, film festival and Heavenly reception at Caesars’ Planet Hollywood.

The classic turns competitive Saturday and Sunday at Alpine Meadows. Action runs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday.
