Whittell basketball improves to 14-3

Tribune staff report

Whittell boys beat non-league opponent Loyalton Wednesday afternoon with a comfortable score of 73-50.

“The difference in the game was the pressure we were able to apply with our full court press,” Coach Phil Bryant stated in an email.

“We wore them down with the press and conditioning was in our favor. They were a very tough team for a half, but had trouble getting their second wind.”

Sophomore Colin Buchholz tallied a season-high 25 points and was a standout on defense, while Palmer Chaplin scored 14.

Bryce Bronken started the game with two quick fouls, which led to sitting out all but one minute in the first quarter. He picked up a third foul just 30 seconds into the second quarter, but managed to finish the game with nine points and five rebounds.

Freshman Cole Snyder was moved up from the JV level halfway through the season and has made a significant impact in his two varsity appearances. He finished the game with 12 points Wednesday night.

The Warriors’ next game is Friday night at Smith Valley.
