Whittell girls roll over Bulldogs
After going 1-3 at the Comstock Classic over the weekend, Whittell girls’ basketball coach Nathan Tolbert was left scratching his head about the direction of his team. Two days later, he’s happy with how the Warriors responded.
Brittney Makara and Tierney McKool each scored nine points and eight different players scored in Whittell’s 40-23 nonleague win at Smith Valley on Tuesday. Sophomore Isabel Concha-Foley added six points in the team’s biggest blowout victory in two weeks.
“We changed the way we run our offense, putting more accountability and responsibility on the players, and boy did that change the way we played,” Tolbert said. “We actually ran our halfcourt offense without fail in the first half.”
The Warriors (6-4) will receive a stiff road test on Friday when they travel north to face 1A Pyramid Lake. Whittell will be without McKool, who will miss the game because of a medical procedure scheduled for the previous day.
“It will be interesting to see how the girls come out because Tierney is such an important player for us,” Tolbert said.
STHS-Hug games postponed
The South Tahoe-Hug basketball games were postponed due to the snow storm that affected the Lake Tahoe Basin and Northern Nevada. A make-up date has not been scheduled.
Some Whittell High skiers left out of story
In Tuesday’s Tribune, there was a prep skiing story that left out the results of several Whittell boys skiers. Matt Schorr placed seventh, Nick Shepack 18th, T.J. Kolesnik 22nd and Jeff Latta 24th for the Warriors in a Tahoe Basin Ski League slalom race on Monday at Alpine Meadows.
