Whittell girls soccer blanks Mustangs, Longhorns

The Whittell girls soccer team notched a pair of lopsided home wins in consecutive days last week to remain undefeated in league play. The Warriors beat Battle Mountain 11-0 on Friday and downed Pershing County 6-0 the following day.

On Saturday, Whittell (14-1, 12-0 III Northern) scored three times in each half while rolling to a 6-0 win over Pershing County. Forward Kenya Maltase led the way with two goals and two assists in the win.

Against the Mustangs, midfielders Madison Idso, Sabrina Trachsel, Gisselle Benitez and Gigi Stetler each found the back of the net. Forwards Samantha Forvilly and Ali Copsy added assists.

On Friday night, the Warriors scored seven times in the first half and rolled to an 11-0 shutout win over Battle Mountain. Stetler scored a team-high four goals and recorded an assist in the win.

In the victory over the Longhorns, Forvilly finished with two goals and an assist while Idso, Benitez, and Sabrina Trachsel each had a goal and an assist. Defender Michael Gardner and midfielder Mikayla Warner each scored, with Maltase and midfielder Gaby Trachsel adding assists.

Whittell returned to action Tuesday at North Tahoe and concludes the regular season at home against Yerington next Wednesday. The NIAA Div. 3 state tournament begins Friday, Nov. 7 at Whittell.
