Whittell girls’ soccer team plays to scoreless tie

Chad Sellmer, Tribune staff writer

The Warriors played Manogue to a scoreless tie Thursday afternoon on the road in their first Northern Nevada 2A League soccer match of the season.

“We had some pretty good shots but we couldn’t get one into the back of the net,” said Whittell head coach Jane Gadbois.

Goalkeeper Elise Thomas had some nice saves for the Warriors, one in particular that could have meant the difference in the game as it looked to be a sure thing.

“She had one that was just the Manogue forward and her going one on one,” Gadbois said. “She shot it into the far right corner and Elise dove and knocked it out.”

The Warriors are now 5-1-2 on the season with a match coming up Saturday against Sparks at home. Whittell also has two important league matches coming up next week against Truckee and North Tahoe.
