Whittell soccer trio earns 1st Team All-League honors
Whittell’s dangerous goal-scoring duo Anna White and Ava Campbell earned high honors this season for the Warriors girls’ soccer team.
White, a junior, was named to the 2A Northern All-League first team and also earned second team All-State. Campbell was placed on the All-League first team.
White led the Warriors to a second-place finish in league and a playoff appearance where they ran into the 3A South Tahoe Vikings, the eventual state runners-up.
White scored a team-high 17 goals, according to maxpreps.com, in only 13 games. She added a co-team high seven assists.
Campbell, a freshman, made a big splash in her first high school season. She scored 14 goals and added seven assists.
The “Anna-Ava” combination scored 31 of Whittell’s reported 53 goals on the season.
Whittell’s Kyla Rippett also was named to the All-League first team. The sophomore wasn’t a big scorer with two goals and three assists, but was a solid contributor in the Warriors’ 10-win season.
Whittell also had juniors Melanie Sanchez and Brianna Johns make the All-League second team. Sanchez had two assists and Johns scored four goals and added four assists.
Warriors freshman Olivia Craig was given honorable mention.
The Warriors finished the season in second place in the 2A Northern League behind White Pine, who lost just one game the entire season, in the first round of the playoffs.
