Whittell softball beats Pyramid Lake 16-4, wins fifth straight

NIXON, Nev. — A big inning Tuesday helped the Whittell softball team extend its winning streak to five games. The Warriors beat Pyramid Lake 16-4 in five innings on the road, delivering the decisive blow with 11 runs in the third inning.

Whittell (10-7) scored a run in each of the first two frames to take a 2-0 lead. Then the Warriors broke the game open by scoring 11 runs in the top of the third — they maintained at least a double-digit lead over Pyramid Lake (5-4) the rest of the way.

Eva Fuller led Whittell with two hits in the victory, finishing 2-for-4 with an RBI and two runs. Dominque Ogilvie and Daria Sharon each had a double and two RBIs, while Ali Copsy, Jordyn Becker and Kelsey Kjer added a hit and an RBI apiece.



Three pitchers combined to hold the Lakers to four runs on six hits — Madison Idso started and threw 2.2 innings, allowing three runs on four hits with five strikeouts and a walk. In relief, Kelsey Kjer pitched 1.1 scoreless innings with four strikeouts — Kaitlyn Kjer came on for the bottom of the fifth, allowing a run on two hits with two strikeouts.

Whittell resumes Div. IV Northern League action Saturday with a doubleheader at Mineral County. The twinbill is scheduled to start at noon.
