Whittell softball trio make 2A All State

Darin Olde, Tahoe Daily Tribune

Adding to its landmark season, three Whittell softball players were named to the Nevada 2A All-State team.

Graduating seniors Stephanie Evans and Erin Silver made first team.

Evans, at shortstop, was selected along with five others as first-team infield. Silver was among four selected to first-team outfield.

“(This is) very special for Stephanie and Erin,” said Whittell softball manager Linsday Wines. “What they’ve been through in this program — to leave as members of first-team all-state is well-deserving.”

Junior Ashley Wines was named to the second team as pitcher.

Wines said she was hopeful her daughter would receive honorable mention. To make second team exceeded the coach’s expectations.

Twenty-four players were selected to the two teams. Another 11 received honorable mention.

Battle Mountain led with three players selected to second team and one to first team.

White Pine, the 2A Nevada state champions, had three players selected on the first team. State runner-up, The Meadows, had one first-team and two second-team players.
