The Whittell volleyball team is flexing its muscles in the Northern Nevada 2A League this season with an undefeated league record thanks to a win at Hawthorne Saturday.

“We took care of business in three games against a team that won the zone title last year and was state runner up,” said Warriors’ coach Dan McLaughlin.

Whittell won games of 25-13, 25-16 and 26-24 on the Serpents’ home court to improve to 4-0 in league play this year, 5-2 overall.

“We served extremely well and we played a little better offensively,” McLaughlin noted. “They (Hawthorne) didn’t have much of an offensive attack.”

Tina Hordzwick scored 11 points with four aces and four kills for the Warriors. Katrina Kacirek had 12 points with five aces, Jessica Woods had six points, three aces and eight kills and Jackie Marino amassed 18 assists.

The Warriors play non-league Virginia City Tuesday, then face 4A Spanish Springs on Thursday.
