Whittell volleyball team gets second league win of season
Whittell High’s volleyball team picked up a much-needed league win in Lovelock Saturday to improve the Warriors’ record to 2-0 against Northern Nevada 2A opponents.
Scores were 25-18, 25-12, 19-25 and 25-21.
The Mustangs were led by six-foot Felisha Booth, who plays for a club team coached by Warriors head coach Dan McLaughlin.
“It’s a huge win,” McLaughlin said. “It leaves us at 2-0 having bested two of the top teams in the league.”
Freshman Jessica Woods provided the Warriors with 10 kills and Tina Hordzwick added nine. Jackie Marino had 12 service points and 35 assists. Freshman Kelly Karmann contributed five kills, nine service points and two blocks. Anna Kingman also had nine service points and Katrina Kacirek helped out with four blocks.
“The real story of the game was the defensive strength of the Warriors led by Sydney Kolvin and Whitney Gielow (but) everyone contributed,” McLaughlin said.
Whittell plays Silver Stage at home Tuesday, then travels to “arch-rival” Hawthorne Saturday.
