Whittell’s lady linksters wrap up season

Tribune Staff Report

Whittell High’s girls golf team concluded its season at the Golf Club at Genoa Lakes on Tuesday.

The Warriors finished fourth as a team behind behind Yerington and Hawthorne and Manogue. Dayton and Incline were fifth and sixth. Yerington and Manogue qualified for state as teams.

Michelle Rey capped her ever-improving season with a 112. She lowered her best score ever by more than 15 strokes. Alexa McKool was second at 118 and is the first alternate for the Northern Nevada 3A state playoffs next weekend. Rachelle Rey fired a 153, Eugenia Kokunina 154, Melissa Smith 171 and Jacqueline Solberg 191.

“The girls put up some personal-best scores and we’re really happy. They’ve improved a lot,” said first-year coach Joanna Harris. “I hope they’ll have the desire to continue to keep playing golf. I hope to see them all back next year.”
