WHS aces all state test

The postseason means everything in Nevada 2A golf and Keith Truswell, Ryan Salomon and Parker Fox heated up just in time for the postseason.

All the three Whittell Warrior golfers did was lead the team to both the 2A zone and state titles.

Salomon also took both tournaments en route to claiming Most Valuable Player accolades for the state.

“Ryan really came on in the end to help us to the title,” Warrior coach Steve Maltase said.

Salomon, a junior, edged out his senior teammate Truswell for the honors as he finished one stroke ahead of the senior at zone and two ahead of him at state.

“It’s kind of a tribute to our team that both of them could finish so high and get the honors they did,” Maltase said.

Both Truswell and Fox made first-team all-state. Truswell was a dominate force throughout the season, finishing in the top-10 for most of the tournaments.

Fox, on the other hand, was fairly consistent during the regular season, but came on really strong in the postseason, finishing fifth at both zone and state.

“Parker really improved throughout the year, which only means big things for next season,” Maltase said.

In fact, both Fox and Salomon are returning to a state championship team which only loses Truswell. Truswell will attempt to walk on at the University of Nevada Las Vegas.

“He definitely has the potential to play down there, but he’ll have to work hard,” Maltase said.
