WHS boys snap losing streak

Christian Hernandez scored a team-high 13 points and Cody Nelson added 10 as the Whittell boys’ basketball team snapped its 11-game Northern 2A losing streak with a 46-42 win over North Tahoe on Tuesday in Tahoe City.

Adam Laub added nine points for the Warriors, who improved to 8-15 overall and 1-11 in league play.

“We finally put four quarters together,” said WHS coach Brian Mehrer. “We were down 11-0 to start, then we back back and tied it up 13-13. After that, it was a battle all the way until the end.”

Whittell hosts Rite of Passage on Friday and plays at Hawthorne on Saturday.

Warriors put up a fight, but lose to Lakers

Kendra Koskin scored a team-high 12 points and added seven rebounds in the Whittell girls’ basketball team’s 32-18 Northern 2A loss to North Tahoe on Tuesday in Tahoe City.

Gabriella Tracy added four points in the loss for the Warriors, who dropped to 8-11 overall and 3-5 in league.

Whittell travels to Hawthorne on Saturday.
