Wise, Summerhill lead Vikings at state meet

Truckee dominated the state Nordic championships on Friday and Saturday at the Auburn Ski Club.

Annika Taylor of Truckee was the CNISSF’s combined winner for the varsity girls, while Truckee’s Russell Kennedy captured the varsity boys’ combined title.

Participants competed in a 5-kilometer classic race on Friday and a 5-kilometer freestyle race on Saturday.

David Wise of South Tahoe High finished fourth in the open boys’ race. Wise’s time in the classic race was 20:26.2. He improved to third on Saturday with a skate time of 17:09.2, finishing with the third-best combined time.

Vikings’ senior Joey Summerhill was eighth in classic at 21:41. Summerhill ascended to fifth in skate at 18:02.8 to take sixth overall in the open boys’ class.

Tiffany Racz, a STHS freshman, was ninth in the open girls’ classic race with her time of 26:35.4. Racz was 11th in Saturday’s freestyle race with a time of 22:47.9 and finished 10th overall.

Kyle Swain, 29th in skate, led the STMS boys to third place in the final standings, while Lisa Johnston (30th) triggered the STMS girls to fourth overall.
