Wood lights up Compton for 32 points
Former South Tahoe High sharpshooter Jared Wood twice led Cabrillo College in scoring as the Seahawks’ men’s basketball team advanced to last weekend’s Chabot Tournament championship.
Wood scored a season-high 32 points as Cabrillo pounded Compton College 109-74. The former four-year Viking varsity player hit 15 of 21 from the foul line. The Seahawks built a 49-18 halftime lead on the strength of hitting 11 three-point shots.
Wood followed that performance with a team-high 17 points in Cabrillo’s 60-51 upset of Chabot, Northern California’s fourth-ranked team. Chabot had beaten the Seahawks 69-59 in the Cabrillo tournament finals on Dec. 2.
Cabrillo, however, didn’t bring home the Chabot championship trophy, losing to Las Positas 73-63 in the finals. Chris Sharp topped the Seahawks with 18 points.
The Seahawks (8-7) will return to the court against Cañada on Friday in Redwood City.
