A 2½-hour drive from South Lake Tahoe to Placerville? Traffic backing up on US 50
With the three-day weekend drawing toward a close, traffic is backing up on U.S. 50 through Meyers toward the Y in South Lake Tahoe.
Both Caltrans and the city of South Lake Tahoe noted the current traffic backup in separate social media posts Monday afternoon. The city suggested those who planned on leaving town Monday afternoon consider staying “a little longer” to avoid sitting in traffic.
A Google Maps search Monday afternoon estimated it would take 2 hours and 38 minutes to travel from South Lake Tahoe to Placerville in current traffic conditions.
The approximately 60-mile trip is closer to an hour in normal circumstances.
Residents and visitors alike were reminded of just how bad the gridlock can be in early January when a winter storm forced the closure on Interstate 80 and caused traffic holds on U.S. 50. Some drivers spent hours trying to travel a matter of miles.
Traffic is starting to get backed up at the Y. Everyone leaving town at the same time can make for a much longer commute. Consider enjoying Tahoe just a little longer! Or use some of the tips, found at the link! https://t.co/ekzNkbvVCY pic.twitter.com/lLT2OiyipS
