Low humidity and gusty conditions will trigger a fire weather watch in the Lake Tahoe Basin.

The watch, issued by the National Weather Service, is in effect from Tuesday afternoon to Wednesday evening.

Winds from the southwest is 15-25 mph, with gusts as strong as 35-40 mph. Wind prone locations could see gusts up to 50 mph. The strongest winds are expected during the afternoon and evening hours. Humidity is expected to range between 7 and 17 percent.

‘The combination of gusty winds and low humidity can cause fires to rapidly grow in size and intensity before first responders can contain them,” the service warns.

“Avoid outdoor activities that can cause a spark near dry vegetation, such as yard work, target shooting, or campfires. Follow local fire restrictions. Check weather.gov/reno for updates and livingwithfire.info for preparedness tips.”
