Former South Lake Tahoe fire captain sentenced in child porn case
A former South Lake Tahoe fire captain will serve 10 years in prison for transporting child pornography.
Former South Lake Tahoe Fire Capt. Mark McLeod Wygant plead guilty to transporting child pornography in December. U.S. Attorney Phillip Talbert announced Wygant’s sentencing Friday in a news release.
U.S. District Judge Garland E. Burrell Jr. sentenced Wygant, 46, of Chico. He has been in custody since his arrest on Jan. 29, 2015.
Wygant was arrested following a FBI and South Lake Tahoe Police Department investigation, the Tribune previously reported. A FBI affidavit at that time alleged Wygant surreptitiously filmed a child on numerous occasions from early 2011 to early 2012 by using a hidden iPhone and “spy cameras” that he purchased.
Wygant then transported the videos and photos from a location in Butte County to South Lake Tahoe, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office, which clarified that the charges do not relate to any conduct committed during the course of his interaction with the public during his duties with the fire department.
