Lake Tahoe weather: Colder temperatures to start week, rain expected Thursday

Lake Tahoe can expect colder temperatures and sunny conditions to start out the week before rain moves into the region midweek, according to the National Weather Service.

High temperatures of 40, 45 and 52 degrees will start the week in South Lake Tahoe. Winds are expected to pick up Wednesday and there is a 60 percent chance of precipitation Wednesday night into Thursday, according to NWS.

A chance of rain will linger through the end of the week, with cloudy conditions in the forecast for the upcoming weekend.

The forecast may be met with some skepticism after a winter storm never fully materialized on the South Shore this past weekend.

But as Bryan Allegretto, Tahoe snow forecaster for OpenSnow.com, wrote in a Sunday post, many of the snow totals on the West, North and East shores were not far off from the totals in the last pre-storm forecast from OpenSnow.com.

“So the North side of the lake seems to have picked up the forecast snow amounts with this storm. Where we saw the front slow and wash out yesterday to the South side of the lake the ski resorts maybe picked up 1-2 inches at best and came up way short of the forecast.”

But, as Allegretto noted, it’s still early.
